Latest Malayalam Movie Chattambinaadu Reviews, Reports

Chattambinaadu is the latest malayalam movie featuring mammooty in the main role. In a single word the movie is a useles one while considering the story part of the movie. And taking as an entertainer i will give my full support to the movie which provides some mindless entertainment.

Director Shafi has narrated a story which is a potpourri of films like Rajamanikyam, Prajapathi, Thommanum Makkalum and a few others of the similar kind, but certainly without much of the charm of any of these films, in the absence of a credible storyline!

For this Christmas, once again you have a movie plotted at a remote Tamil Nadu border, with all that colorful camera friendly costume worn dumb village people, two strong families at war for more than two decades, the entry of the hero to settle the war with some mysterious personal interests, the loud mouthed villain with that big moustache and another hundreds of regular features that you come across in almost all the hits of decade.

, the story happens more or less the same way, in a remote village originally called Chembattunadu as well. The rivalry between two wealthy families had brought in some chattampis (goons) from neighbouring areas and after a while, they took control of the village.
Chembattunadu soon became Chattambinadu. Vijendra Mallaya (Mammootty), who speaks Malayalam with a heavy Kannada accent, soon comes to Chattambinadu, after he buys the property belonging to Mallanchira Chandramohan (Manoj K Jayan). This enrages the wicked Kattappilly Nagendran (Siddique) and he begins to pose troubles one after the other for Mallaya. There are some local chattampis in the area, like Makri Gopalan (Salim Kumar) and Dasamoolam Damu (Suraj Venjarammood) that is meant to makes things more interesting.

Mammootty looks eminently handsome in his trimmed moustache and neatly cut stubble. He wears a white kurta- pyjama, white shoes, dark sunglasses and a red tilak on his forehead that makes him quite an imposing figure. He talks in a peculiar accent and the actor has taken some nice efforts to give the character some real difference. Mammootty’s punchline a mixture of Kannada and Malayalam is sure to become popular.

Vinu Mohan, who plays Murugan, is like a brother to Mallaya and the young actor has come up with one of the best performances in his brief career. Both the heroines, Lakshmi Rai and Manikyam Mythili, have limited roles to play. Siddique, as the menacing villain, looks fine but has nothing much to do other than what we have seen in some of his earlier films. Salimkumar and Suraj tries really hard, but they too have nothing new to offer.

It is the script that is the weakest link here and that is evident all along. The technical side of the movie is good, with every department doing their best to maintain the quality of a potential hit. Manoj Pillai's camera, and V Sajan’s editing are brilliant and the makers has managed to keep the interest going for the entire length of two hours and five minutes. Alex Paul' songs have good beats but won’t stay in our minds for long. The title song written by Murugan Kattakkada and sung by C J Kuttappan is the best among the three featured in the movie.

At just more than two hours and eight minutes, Chattambinadu may turn out to be a mindless mass entertainer. The film is worth a look for Mammookka, he is simply awesome and holds the film together. I prefer you to watch the movie if you are a hard core mammooty fan and you prefer entertainment rather than watching a movie which comprises a good story.

Verdict: Average
Movie Rating: 3.0/5.0

New Malayalam Movie Ividam Swargamanu Review

Ivide Swargamanu is the latest malayalam movie and the X'mas release of the Universal Star Mohanlal. As the name like the movie is also a heaven. With the fabulous performance from the cast and the tremendous work from the crew makes the movie among one of the hits of 2009.

With its virtuous intentions and inherent honesty Ividam Swargamanu is a gutsy and good attempt by Rosshan Andrews and script writer James Albert to bring about a change. The film talks about a crisis situation that happens in the life of a farmer who loves his land and is committed to thwart evil designs of the land mafia.

Rosshan and James has dealt with a topical subject about fly by night real estate dealers who are trying to push up land prices and forcing people to convert farmland into real estate and resorts. Mohanlal has been shown as a green farmer who cultivates organic vegetables and runs his farm using traditional methods and thereby director Rosshan Andrrews has tried to bring in some difference.

Mathews (Mohanlal) has become a farmer by choice and has set up a rather impressive farm. He is a chronic bachelor, who is a nice human being and very attached to his family especially his father Jeremiah (Thilakan). A wealthy land grabber Aluva Chandy (Lalu Alex) wants to purchase Mathews land and he convinces the villagers that a big township will be set up there.

Now the story gets some pace and Mathews has to deal almost singlehandedly with the “real estate mafia” and the corrupt system. When the going gets tough, he decides to use some wily tactics to handle Chandy. It is Prabalan (Sreenivasan), a lawyer who has been appointed as the ‘amicus curiae’ in the case, who helps Mathews in this.

As the common man who is no invincible superhero and with his heart in the right place, its vintage Mohanlal looking refreshingly good as Mathews. His on-screen chemistry with seasoned actors like Thilakan, Sreenivasan and Jagathy Sreekumar is a treat to watch Lalu Alex has come up with one of the best performances in his career, as the wealthy, scheming but idiotic Aluva Chandy.

There are three heroines in the story, Betsy (Priyanka Nair), a channel reporter, Sunitha (Lakshmi Rai), a lawyer and Maria (Lakshmi Gopalaswany), the manager of the State Financial Corporation, who have done their brief roles pretty well. The rest of the cast like Thilakan, Kaviyoor Ponnamma and Sukumari has nothing much to do, as the whole story is centred on Mathews and his agonies.

The technical side of the movie is also pretty good with cinematographer Diwaker doing wonders with the lights of the desi locales. Art director Syril Kurvula also excels with his sets while Renjan Abraham in his editing could have applied his scissors, a little sharper in a few scenes. Gopi Sundar’s background scores are also adequate and interesting.

The movie is definitely far being called perfect, but there are some moments in it that makes the film a worthy watch.

Verdict: Must Watch
Movie Rating : 4.0/5.0

Neelathamara Movie Review

Neelathamara is the upcoming Malayalam movie which is actually the remake of Yusuf Ali Kecheri's Neelathamara. This time Lal Jose is handling the direction and MT Vasudevan Nair is behind the Script. The main lead done by the actress Ambika in 1979 will be performed by the new face Archana. The movie Neelathamara got released last 27 and here is the detailed review about the latest malayalam movie.

The film scripted by M T Vasudevan Nair and directed by Lal Jose, is perhaps one of those movies which you will like for its inherent innocence and goodness more than its presentation or technical aspects. It's the remake of a film with the same title, made 30 years ago and in all fairness, the story has been made to look relevant and fresh.

The story happens in a sleepy but picturesque Valluvanadan village where the young, beautiful Kunjumalu (Archana Kavi) comes to an old tharavadu as a maid. Malukutty Amma (Sreedevi Unni) lives alone there as her son Haridas (Kailash) is a law student and stays in the city. Soon after, Haridas comes home and is instantly smitten by the ample charms of the new maid.

The poor girl believes that he is in love with her, but realizes her mistake, when he marries Rathnam (Samvrutha Sunil) sometime later. Now, the story is being narrated as a flashback and the characters have grown much older. Though Neelathamara is focused on the life of Kunjimalu, it never delves deep enough into her mind and as a result, her anguish doesn't affect the viewer much as well. She falls prey to his flirtatious ways a bit too easily, but it is curious why his mother never realized about what was going on behind her back!

Certain characters like Sharathe Ammini (Rima Kallingal) and the old man sitting at the temple premises, for instance, seems half-baked at best. The film creates an ambience for sure and succeeds in taking the viewers to a different world, but it is generally done on a rather superficial level. The obvious feeling is to think about films like Nandanam that have narrated similar themes, but in a more effective way.

Debutante Archana Kavi has done a fine job, imparting the required innocence and charm to her character, which in fact is the soul of the story. Her resemblance to Parvathy, who has done her grown up version, looks nice on screen. Kailash too has done a decent job as the hypocritical youth, who conveniently forgets the young girl, after using her. The rest of the characters have limited roles to play, especially considering the impact they have in the story.

The highlight of the film could be the visuals by Vijay Ulakanath and to a certain extent, the music by Vidyasagar. Even in these days when mindsets and lifestyles have taken a complete change from the days when he first wrote the script, the inimitable M T Vasudevan Nair has succeeded in presenting the story in a refreshing tone. The film has its moments and Lal Jose presents it, in a beautiful way.

In the story, Neelathamara (blue lotus) blooms in a temple pond when a believer prays wholeheartedly to fulfill a wish. The film is definitely worth a watch and we sincerely wish such films happen more often in Malayalam.

Latest Malayalam Movie Neelathamara Review, Initial Reports

Neelathamara is one of the most expected malayalam movie of 2009. The movie is a remake of Yusuf Ali Kechery's Neelathamara which was released in 1979. Director Lal Jose is behind this venture and the script is handled by M T Vasudevan Nair. M T Vasudevan Nair is once again restructuring the scripts of the hits of the eighties ‘Neelathamara’ which featured Ravikumar, Ambika and Sathar, to suit to the changing times. The movie got released yesterday and here is the initial reports about the movie.

Neelathamara in single words is an average movie. At a glance the movie got good direction, Super songs which are already in the hitlist and average script. While coming to the performance part Kailash and Archana has done a brilliant work. But the movie is not upto expectation due to the lack of strong base in the story. Anyway the movie is getting nice responses from all part of the kerala.

Hope the best for the movie..

Latest Tamil Movie 'Kanden Kadhalai' Movie Review

Kanden Kadhalai is latest tamil movie which got released on last week. The movie Kanden Kadhalai features Bharath and Tamannah in the main roles is getting nice responses from all over. The Movie is actually the remake of Superhit Hindi Movie 'Jab We Met' in which Tammanah is doing the role of kareen kapoor and Bharath comes in Sahid kapoor's role.

Remakes are never an easy task. It has to retain the flavour of the original and at the same time ensure that it suits the local audience for which it has been remade. Kannan has done his best to match the magic of Bollywood director Imitiaz Ali. Produced by Moser Baer & Blue Ocean and presented by Sun Pictures, 'Kanden Kadhalai' is a movie that is breezy and enthralling all the way.

The story principally revolves around two characters. Though it is no path-breaking story or has any twists in the plot, it still manages to keep one glued to their seats. Bharath (Sakthivel) and Tamannah (Anjali) hog all limelight playing their role with such ease and cool. The USP of the movie are the simplest scenes. There are no unbelievable stunt sequences or double-entendre or mass heroisms. The story flows smooth and cool all through.

Sakthivel is the son of a rich entrepreneur who is dejected at life and decides to go nowhere. A man with few words, he boards a train only to meet Anjali, who is straight opposite to him. She is good-hearted and daring. Sequence of events leads to Anjali missing the train during the middle of the journey. The responsibility is now on Sakthivel to take her to her home town in Theni.

Interestingly Sakthi wins the heart of Anjali's family including her grandfather (Ravichandran), her father (Nizhalgal Ravi) and her uncles. But the bubbly Anjali decides to elope from her house to marry her boy friend Goutham (Munna). She takes the help of Sakthivel. Sakthivel promises to get both Anjali and Goutham married. The rest is all but efforts by Sakthivel to convince the whole family. But Anjali slowly develops a soft-corner for Sakthivel. Whom she marries forms the climax.

Tamannah and Bharath has done their role fantastically . Vidyasagar has rendered a mix of peppy and melodious tunes that set up the momentum. P G Muthiah's cinematography captures Ooty at its pristine glory. The negative thing in the movie is that in the second half the movie lags a bit and the subtle emotion that was present all through in the original was sorely missing.

Verdict: Breezy Entertainer(3.5/5.0)

New Malyalam Movie Swantham Lekhakan Review

Swa Le(Swantham Lekhakan) is the Latest malayalam movie which got released last friday in theatres. The movie was expected to be a strong comback of Dileep and Gopika. But initial reports shows that the movie is just only an average one and will not be a superhit. Here is the detailed review of the Malayalam movie Swantham Lekhakan.

Swantham Lekhahan is directed by P.Sukumar and the movie based on a decent premise. But with some definite prejudices underlying, lackluster performances from everyone involved and in the absence of even a half-baked script, it turns out to be a rather painful experience that treads along without any definite direction.

The focus of the story is its protagonist, Unni Madhavan (Dileep), a local reporter of an average selling daily, who is struggling hard to find enough time to focus on his job or to take care of his pregnant wife and in the end, mess things up on both fronts. His wife Vimala (Gopika) had married him without the consent of her parents and the couple has virtually no one to help them.

The story of a reporter happening two decades back during those times when mobile phones, news channels and modern technology had not made things what it is now, seems to be a nice backdrop. But the real challenge is to make it into an imaginative script with some substance.
No such luck here and worse still, there seems to be a confusion regarding whether the story is to be treated in a humorous way or on serious lines. In the end, it neither entertains nor makes any sense.

With the role posing no challenges whatsoever, Dileep looks just fine as Unni Madhavan and has nothing to do other than what he has done until now. But it's rather silly of him to mimic news anchors and the sort, which is usually done by less talented clones in numerous programmes and even in films. Gopika is wasted in a rather meek role and she often overdoes the pregnancy parts at times.

The rest of the cast has limited roles and actors like Jagathy Sreekumar, Innocent, Salim Kumar and Harisree Asokan hams it up, making things irritating to the core. The visuals are fine and the music is good, but the editor could have done a better job. Or how else do you explain the ridiculous scene involving Salim Kumar as a photographer and a newly married couple that goes on and on, without an end?

With no honesty or passion, the makers have botched a nice thread that shows promise as a one-liner. Remember films like Page 3, where the life of a journalist has been shown quite brilliantly. Some of the buffoonery in those mimicry-shows could have more substance than this languid farce! Watch it, at your own risk.

Angel John Movie Review, Initial Reports

Latest Malayalam movie Angel John featuring Mohanlal and Shanthanu Bhagyaraj got released on last thursday. Mohanlal is doing the title role and coming as Angel John. Initial reports shows that the movie failed to keep the expectations but the movie will be some what success. The movie is a perfect family entertainer and will be an average hit.

Angel John is a treat for the family audiences which is not only a breezy entertainer but is packaged well with sentiments, comedy, and action but also has a neat message. The movie got a nice theme. The positive things of the Movie Angel John are Mohanlal, Good theme, nice songs, and good comedy. The negative is the poor script and direction. In some point, there is no connection between the successive scenes in the movie.

Maradona (Santhanoo) is an aimless youngster who likes to waste his time doing practically nothing other than fooling around. For him everything in life is Oru Rasam (just fun) and wants to take the easy way out and lacks focus in his life. A shattered Maradonna decides to commit suicide by jumping from a lighthouse into the sea. As he is about to jump, he is held back by a divine force in the form of Angel John (Mohanlal), who offers him a new lease of life.

While coming to the performances, Mohanlal as usual done perfectly and Shanthanu done an average performance and we are sure that he got more talents. Almost all other supporting cast have done good job . More importantly the director plays up the message part of the film by highlighting the importance of hard work, dedication, ethics and sacrifice. According to us the movie is watchable once and have fun in the theatre.

Verdict: Average(3.0/5.0)

Review: Malayalam Movie Pazhassi Raja

One of the Most Expected malayalam movie of the 2009 has arrived after a long wait. Yes Mammootty Starrer Pazhassi Raja released all over india on last friday (16/10/2009). I need to tell all of you that the movie Pazhassi Raja is simply Excellent. Here is the detailed review of the movie Pazhassi Raja.

Pazhassi Raja is a movie telling the story all about a prince and his freedom struggles agains the British Force in Kerala - The prince was Pazhassi Kerala Varma. This is the biggest ever produced movie in Malayalam on a budget of 27 crores. Sources indicate that the movie got a good response and has got initial collection of about 1.52 crores in kerala. Hariharan, MT Vasudevan Nair and Mammootty’s exhilarating epic Pazhassi Raja is a monumental film, a movie that goes beyond the message.

The Movie Pazhassi Raja Starts with the dialogues of Superstar Mohanlal who is introducing the Pazhassi Raja. Pazhassi Raja Movie begins during the time when the British had ordered to levy heavy taxes from the various kingdoms and Pazhassi Raja (Mammootty), who belonged to the Kottayam Royal family in Thalassery of Malabar region in Kerala, opposed this. After being forced to flee with his Queen Kaitheri Makkom(Kaniha), Lieutenant Edachena Kunkan (Sarathkumar) and Kaitheri Ambu (Suresh Krishna) to the forests, Pazhassi Raja started guerilla warfare against the British from the forests in Wayanad. He had the support of the tribal warriors like Thalackal Chanthu (Manoj K Jayan) and Neeli(Padmapriya).

After some initial successes, Pazhassi's army soon started facing setbacks as they found the going tough against the guns and modern machinery of the English soldiers. The brave Raja and his faithful gang of warriors were defeated by the army led by the young British sub-collector Thomas Baber, with the help of some traitors like Pazhayamveedan Chanthu(Suman).

Coming to the performances, Mammootty has given a restrained performance as the graceful raaja, but his screen presence and body language is s enough to carry the heavy character with ease. The surprise packet is Sarath Kumar, who looks perfectly fit, heroic and absolutely invincible as Edachena Kunkan. Kaniha looks beautiful even without any make-up or jewellery and has the royal look that is required for her role as Kaitheri Makkom. Manoj K Jayan and Suresh Krishna, along with Padmapriya and Kaniha, make the movie a treasure of performance with exhilarating performances.

You can feel the mighty power of Pazhassi Raja and his bravery through the climax dialogue by the British sub-collector Thomas Baber - "HE WAS OUR ENEMY, BUT HE WAS A GREAT MAN ,A GREAT WARRIOR."

Hariharan and MT Vasudevan Nair have proved their brilliance when they team up several times before and once again, they underline their eminence, with a genuine effort. The technical aspects like Ramanath Shetty's cinematography, Ravi Dewan's action, Resul Pookkutty's sound and Sreekar Prasad's editing have also succeeded in taking to a different level.

Overall, Pazhassi Raaja remains as a great movie with brilliant direction, solid performances spectacular visuals. I prefer you all to watch the movie in theatres and surely it will be worthy.

Verdict : Excellent(4.0/5.0)

Robinhood Movie Reviews, Initial reports

Robinhood - the new malayalam movie featuring Prithviraj and Bhavana released in theatres all over kerala last week. After the huge success of Puthiya Mukham, prithviraj is back in action. Robinhood’, movie featuring Prithvi as a hi-tech ATM thief, was released in 65 theatres all across Kerala.

The initial report about the movie is that Robinhood is an interesting thriller with everyone in the cast, doing their roles very well. Sources indicate that the movie Robinhood will surely become an average hit and may become Superhit and that will depend on the coming film like Pazhassi Raja, Angel John. Veteran director Joshy directed the movie. Other cast in the movie includes JayaSuriya, Narain, Samvritha Sunil , Biju Menon, Janardhanan etc. Prithviraj, Naraien and Bhavana has done their role very well.

In the movie Prithviraj is coming as an HiTech ATM Thief who hacked the ATM of Biju Menon's IBI bank and Bhavan is coming in the role of Systems head of Bank. Jayasuriya is the Asst. Commisioner of the police who is inestigating the case of ATM robbery and the Narein is coming as a private detective who comes for the bank to take defence against the robbery. Bhavana is looking gorgeous in the movie and she looks most sexy and hot in a malayalam movie. One thing i found is the role of Samvritha which is a useless one.

The movie also features three songs, two fight sequences and plenty of thrills and suspense. As per me the movie RobinHood is a thriller and will be watchable once.

Rating : 3.0/5.0
