Hariharan, MT Vasudevan Nair and Mammootty, the people behind Oru Vadakkan Veeragaatha once again coming to rock the Kerala . Pazhassi Raja is the upcoming movie of superstar Mammootty who comes in the Title Role "Kerala varma Pazhassi Raja". The movie is telling the story of the king of kottayam Royal family of malabar Pazhassi Raja who is popularly known as the 'Lion of Kerala'. The movie shows the heroic fight between the Pazhassi Raja and British in the Wayanad Jungles during 1790s.

“The story of ‘Pazhassi Raja' one of our first, but least known freedom fighters, appealed to me also because it offered tremendous visual possibilities in the backdrops of the forests and the wars. We know about the high expectations people have on the film and are confident that we will be able to live up to it'', says the director Hariharan.

The British company then made proclamations which forbid people from supporting the Raja, threatening to confiscate the property of all who are supporting Pazhassi. In 1797 the Raja's men launched attack on the security personnel stationed at Pazhassi, and in continuous battles that were fought over three days, Pazhassi's men were able to overpower the British forces, using swords, spears, bows and arrows . With an army of thousands of Nairs , Pazhassi inflicted such defeat on the British that they were forced to retreat and negotiate. This forced the British to sign a temporary armistice, in accordance with Raja's wishes. ‘Pazhassi Raja’ once again revolted against the occupants when the British decide to take over Wynad in 1799, after the fall of Sreerenga Patanam. This time the British had an upper hand as they controlled most of the south. They confiscated Raja's properties and proclaimed a reward for capturing him. Raja who fled from the palace, took refuge in the jungles accompanied by his wife and immediate attendants.

Raja tried to continue his warfare with the help of aadivasas and his loyal Kurichiyar tribe. Using guerrilla tactics and informers, he kept the British on tenterhooks for longer than any other regional ruler. But on November 30 1805, the Raja was surrounded by Thomas Harvey Babar, a young British officer on charge of suppressing Pazhaassi and was shot dead in an operation on the banks of Mavila Thodu.

Besides the strong story line the movie also got the best cast and crew a malayalam film has ever got. Other than Mammooty the movie features Sarath Kumar, Manoj K Jayan, Suman, Jagathy, Thilakan, Biju Menon, captain raju, kalabhavan mani, padmapriya, kaniha, saikumar, suresh krishna etc. The crew of the movie includes T Hariharan, M.T Vasudevan Nair, Resul Pookutty, illayaraja, Venu (Camera man), ONV Kurup etc. The movie is produced by the Gokulam Group of Companies and other main thing is that the movie is shooted on a grant budget of 25 Crores.

In the movie Sarath Kumar, plays the role of Pazhassi Raja's trusted commander-in-chief named Edachena Kunkan. Kanika is the female lead and coming as the wife of Pazhassi Raja. Manoj K Jayan is handling the role of Thalakal Chandu. Lakshmi Rai is also coming in a guest role of Belgeum woman and playing a seductive role.

Another hot news is that Mohanlal, Kamal Haasan and Shahrukh khan is also being a part of this venture. They joined the biggest ever production in Mollywood ‘Pazhassi Raja’, by lending their voice for introducing the historic title character, in fact, one of the first freedom fighters of India. Mohanlal is introducing Pazhassi Raja in malayalam While kamal in Tamil and Shahrukh in Hindi version.

Pazhassi Raja's audio has already released and the shooting has over. The movie was earlier set for a releasse on October 2nd and recently posponded to October 16 for the final DI works demanded by the Director. Last Day porducer Gokulam Gopalan registered a case in the court for 50% raise in ticket price to meet the budget. Sources indicate that the movie will be released in 5 languages around 500 theatres.
